 Governor Dave Umahi Laments Inherited High Debt Profile in Ebonyi
The newly sworn-in governor of Ebonyi State, Chief Dave Umahi, yesterday said that the state is currently in a huge debt following unpaid liabilities and accumulated unpaid salaries to civil servants both at state and local government levels.


In his inaugural address to the people of the state, Chief Umahi said that his administration was stepping into governance with serious financial challenges and negative balance sheet. He stated that the inherited liabilities combined with the manifesto pledges would challenge him in dimensions that cannot be predicted.

According to him, “Elimination of waste, barricade against corruption, intelligent rationing of limited resources and accelerated exploitation of natural endowments will see us through. Therefore, the old mediocre methods, where they exist, must give way to the sophisticated demands of today. The collective interests of Ebonyi people will always override the narrow interest of individuals or groups.”

Umahi further stated that during his tenure, there shall be no tolerance for kidnapping, cultism, violence, robbery and harassment of innocent citizens, adding that the administration shall put every effort to ensure the safety of lives and
